Dr. Philip Acree Cavalier

Philip Acree Cavalier, Ph.D., Professor of English

Dr. Philip Acree Cavalier is Professor of English at Eureka College. His primary area of focus is 19th-century American literature, and his research interests include cities in literature and the work of Henry James. He also served as Provost and Dean of the College at Eureka for five years before returning to the faculty. While teaching at Catawba College, Dr. Acree Cavalier was a three-time winner of the Teacher of the Year award. In 2005-06, he and his family lived in Kyiv, Ukraine for 10 months, where he was a Fulbright Scholar teaching at two Ukrainian universities and giving lectures throughout Ukraine, as well as in Estonia and Egypt. He received a Ph.D. in English from the University at Buffalo, a M.A. in English from Northeastern University, and a B.A. in Economics from Swarthmore College.
