Dr. Lipika Sikdar


Dr. Lipika Sikdar (born 1958 in Calcutta, India) has had her schooling in Loreto Convent, Calcutta and took her Masters Degree in English from Rabindra Bharati University, Calcutta where she was awarded the prestigious University Medal for standing First in the M.A. examination for 1982 which followed Bachelor of Education degree, St. Xaviers’ College and Diploma in English Language Teaching from Institute of English, Calcutta. She later received her Doctorate from Rabindra Bharati Universityfor pioneering work on ‘Media Response to Shakespeare’.


Selected by the Public Service Commission,West Bengal, Dr. Sikdar has been serving Government Educational Institutions from 1985 onwards and is currently a Sr. Assistant Mistress in English at Sakhawat Memorial Government Girls’ High School,Calcutta. A versatile and creative person of many accomplishments, she has a Diploma in Creative Writing from IGNOU and regularly writes for the media. An exponent and aficionado of classical and modern dance, Dr. Sikdar combines teaching and research with creative writing and deep involvement in the performing Arts.


His father, (Late) Debkumar Chakraborty, was a Customs Officer, Government of India and mother, Mrs. Sabita Chakraborty, is a house wife. She is married to Dr. Barun Kumar Sikdar, a qualified medical practitioner specialized in Occupational Health employed as Assistant Director (Medical) & Certifying Surgeon, State of West Bengal. Her only son, Subham, is a 3rd year student of BA.LLB (Hons), College of Legal Studies, UPES, Dehradun.
