Carmel is a PhD candidate at The Bouverie Centre, La Trobe University, Australia. Her research is exploring the experiences of students and their families’ engagement with an alternative model of education in Melbourne. She was awarded a double degree in Health Sciences and Development Studies achieving H1 honours in Public Health at La Trobe. Her professional background includes program manager and research assistant roles in a variety of research, health and welfare organisations including The Bouverie Centre, the Australian Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society, the Australian Institute for Primary Care and Ageing, the Satellite Foundation, Doutta Galla Community Health and Action Aid International. Carmel is currently employed by the School of Public Health at La Trobe, teaching in the undergraduate public health program and as a research assistant for The Bouverie Centre. In a voluntary capacity she is the Faculty of Health Sciences postgraduate student representative, and sits on the Board of Directors for the Satellite Foundation – a not-for-profit organisation supporting children, young people and families where a parent has a mental illness.
