Dr. Barbara Ridener Chairs the Department of Teaching and Learning in Florida Atlantic University (FAU)’s College of Education. It is the largest department in the University and houses the most popular undergraduate major by enrollment–Elementary Education. Presently, Barbara is an Associate Professor of Mathematics Education and is the principal investigator of iTeach Geometry Partnership Project and iTeach U.S. History Partnership Project, a $3 million, 3 year partnership grant from the state of Florida. Under her direction, the faculty brought coursework and student assessments in line with the effective instructional practices that form the basis of the core teacher appraisal system. The faculty also provided input on changes in programs to address the Common Core State Standards and new Teacher Certification exams. After receiving a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia and working for one year at Temple University, Barbara joined the faculty of FAU 18 years ago and has held various leadership positions and has conducted research in mathematics education. Barbara co-authored the textbook, Mathematics Content for Elementary and Middle School Teachers, with Dr. Penelope J. Fritzer, a faculty member.
